Crossing the Prairie

“Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.”

There have been times in my life when I have walked around with such hurt in my heart that I felt like I should be bleeding, like the pain should be visible on the outside.  When I lost my first pregnancy, and when Rome was born under such heart-wrenching conditions,  it was hard for me to see people just carrying on with their lives, while mine felt like it was falling apart.

This experience has taught me to be gentle with people, as often and as best as I can, because everyone carries a burden, most of them invisible to the outside world. I see this in D., my precious young son, who has already been through more than any child should have to endure, and who will have to suffer still more trauma before he can finally be home where he belongs. He has a quick smile, and seems so ….. for lack of a better word, NORMAL, that it’s easy to forget that he, too, is fighting a great battle.

So, please, be kind to those around you. You never know what kind of difference it can make.
